LAURIE’S IDP CHALLENGE WITH REVIEWED DATE

The Internal Displacement Monitoring Center (IDMC), predicted that at the end of 2015 there would be over 2.1 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Nigeria, mainly due to the terrorist activities of Boko Haram.
This prediction came true. That number currently stands at 2.2 million Nigerians uprooted from their homes, disconnected from their friends, family and immediate community. Some research has the number at over 3 million. Look at this map below, to see how far reaching the challenge is, in comparison to our neighbouring African countries.

Over the last 14 months I have dedicated myself to helping IDPs, especially those in Benin City. Through the support of many, I've been able to host major outreaches, bring in international teams with aid, build toilet facilities, build sports facilities, provide food, shelter, medical care, clean water to a camp. I couldn't have done any of it without people rallying behind my vision.

You too can be a part of this effort. You can turn your vision for them to a reality by participating in #LauriesIDPChallenge.

This blog post is simply to let you know that you have a unique opportunity to make a difference in the life of the IDPs especially in Benin City as an individual, corporate body or an NGO.

All you have to do is upload a video, explaining your idea of the best way to help IDPs and tag me (@IdahosaLaurie) in your video on Instagram on or before 11:59 pm on April 24th, 2016.

10 videos will be selected and uploaded to my page on April 25th and the contestants tagged. All those whose videos are selected will be tasked with getting their friends to like the videos uploaded on my page.

PLEASE NOTE THAT VOTES FROM ACCOUNTS THAT ARE NOT FOLLOWING @idahosalaurie ON INSTAGRAM WILL NOT COUNT!
Voting ends on May 1st 2016.
The three videos with the highest number of likes will be selected for the final stage.
The 1st place winner will receive transportation to Benin city, two nights’ accommodation and feeding, implementation of their idea at the IDP camp with up to  Five Hundred Thousand Naira (500, 000) in sponsorship, work with an international team during the implementation process and a certificate from an internationally recognized body.
The 2nd place winner gets transportation to Benin, two nights’ accommodation and feeding, a donation of goods or services worth Twenty Five Thousand Naira ( 25, 000) , work with an international team during the implementation process and receive a certificate from an internationally recognized body.
The 3rd place winner will receive transportation to Benin, two nights’ accommodation and feeding, work with an international team during the implementation process and receive a certificate from an internationally recognized body.
(This challenge is open to Nigerian residents only)

It is time to do more than just talk about the suffering the IDPs have faced, it is time to do something about it. It is time to put your ideas to work.

  1. Uploading videos on Instagram is just for 15 seconds and it's not enough. Can't even take a minute video
