Heroes and Us!

These days,  it seems that Marvel is coming out with a new epic, must-see movie every few weeks. The world is crazy over super powers. Many of us will rewind and replay a scene of the Hulk throwing a car, or of Spiderman tying up thieves with his web, of Superman saving the world from disaster over and over again.  I'm a mother of three boys, so super hero themed action figures, coloring books, comic books, posters, toys and frequent re-enactments of action scenes are a mainstay in my world.

Let's keep it real, we all love a good super hero movie and sometimes it's like we just can't get enough of them.

But why do we love super heroes so much? Perhaps it's because they're FEARLESS! They see danger as an opportunity to run in and fix things instead of running away to hide.

Superheroes show what many of us feel like doing but never have the nerve to actually do.

Do you realize that you have better powers than all the superheroes combined? The Bible tells us that you can lay hands on sickness and see it healed, it says that you can drive away demonic powers, raise the dead (Matthew 10:8), that you can drink poison and it won't harm you (Mark 16:18), that you can say to the mountain be removed and cast in the sea and it will be done (Mark 11:23).

Yes! You have super powers!

Many Christians would rather live vicariously through the TV than put into use what is on the inside of them. We have power over every work of the enemy, even the final one that many fear, death. When you see death knocking at your door, you have the power over it! "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" I Corinthians 15:5. We have super powers!

So why don't we activate them?

We want to walk in the authority that is ours in Christ Jesus, but many of us are afraid. We ask ourselves, what if I fail? What if it doesn't work? Our "what ifs" have talked us out of being who God created us to be. You have power over fear. "The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom shall I be afraid" Psalm 27:1

The doubts, the fear,  is a counterfeit of the real thing. So next time you watch a super hero movie or play with your childhood action figures, remember that Greater is He that is on the inside of you than He that is in the world (I John 4:4) and that the same spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead lives in you. (Romans 8:11)

It's time to conquer fear and activate your own superpowers!

Be fearless!
