An October 29, 2016 compilation of the "100 most popular keywords on Google" places "Love Quotes" at number 22. It is not uncommon to hear discussions about love between people of all age, race or religion center on the true meaning of love. Conversations like this have spelt the beginning/ end of any number of relationships. The myriad of definitions available on the internet can bring a smile or a sigh to your lips and a twinkle or a tear to your eye as well. However, my absolute best description of love comes from the Bible.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres'.  (I Corinthians 13:4-7)

My faith in God enables me believe His word and what's more, I can confidently say that I have experienced the fulfilment of His word in my life.

15 years ago, I made a choice.  I had an all expense paid trip to Venice, Italy at a time when a friend of my family was visiting my home state.  I cancelled the trip and instead had a visit with Feb Idahosa; this visit was the start of a lifetime of love and adventure as my friend eventually became my husband. He knew how much that trip to Venice meant to me and we planned to take it after we got married but life happened. All the adventures and responsibilities of marriage kept us putting off the trip until now.

In the last week of October 2016, Feb and I travelled for an international conference in Europe. At the end of the conference, we found a gap in our schedule and decided to take advantage of it to  celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary as well as my 42nd birthday.  Guess where we decided to go? Venice, Italy!

For a trip that came up at the last minute, God truly had a hand in it. Our train ride through the Alps was shared with a knowledgeable traveler who provided us with a running commentary on the beautiful scenery outside the window.

My husband decided that we take the 7 hour trip in stages so we stopped over in Milan to spend the evening and inadvertently crammed some aerobics into the trip by trying to chase a bus we had just missed for a tour round Milan.  During this trip a sly porter walked our bags 5 steps from the train station into the hotel and billed us 5 Euros (yes, there are touts in Europe too). Still, it did not take away our enjoyment of the trip to Venice, which we topped up with a gondola ride and a romantic dinner in the beautiful city.

All the time and effort that went into this trip can not be calculated so we got souvenirs for everyone we love who helped us hold things down in Nigeria so that we could travel together.

On this trip, I experienced a love that is patient, kind, and selfless from my amazing husband. I believe that the true test of love is not only in the passion that flames but in the strength that endures...even if it takes 15 years to bear fruit.
